Tomorrow, Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans will be in Sweden for a two-day trip to discuss the green transition and several innovative energy and climate projects.

On Thursday, in the presence of Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson, Swedish Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation, Executive Vice-President Timmermans will visit the Hybrit pilot plant in Lulea, a joint venture of steel producer SSAB, iron ore company LKAB and energy provider Vattenfall to produce green steel with renewable hydrogen. In the afternoon, he will visit the Stora Enso’s pilot facility for producing lignin-based carbon materials for batteries and participate in a roundtable discussion on forest policy with stakeholders. Later, he will have a working dinner with Swedish Prime Minister, Magdalena Andersson on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its consequences for the EU, Fit-For-55, renewables and forestry.

On Friday, Executive Vice-President Timmermans will meet bilaterally with the Minister for Rural Affairs, Anna-Caren Sätherberg, and later, with the committees on Environment, EU Affairs, Industry of the Swedish Parliament. He will join an audience of young Europeans to discuss the EU’s journey towards climate neutrality by 2050 during a citizens dialogue. In the afternoon, he will participate in the signing ceremonies of the EU Innovation Fund’s, to award funding to the first large-scale projects Hybrit and BECCS (bioenergy with carbon capture and storage).
