Employment and Social Policy Council

Employment and social affairs ministers will discuss the future of the European Semester and have a debate on health and safety in the context of the future of work. They are also expected to adopt a Council Decision on guidelines for employment policies and conclusions on gender mainstreaming in the EU budget.
Ministers will hold a policy debate about the future of the European Semester.
In relation to the European Semester they will also endorse the key messages from the Employment Committee on the Annual Employment Performance Report and the Employment Performance Monitor as well as the key messages from the Social Protection Committee on the Annual Review of the Social Protection Performance Monitor.
They are also expected to adopt a Council decision on guidelines for the employment policies of the member states and to approve conclusions on gender mainstreaming in the EU budget.
Health and safety at work
The afternoon session will include a debate on safety and health at the heart of the future of work.
Over lunch, ministers will debate the “Follow-up to the Green paper on Ageing: Are the social protection systems across the EU fit for the population ageing?”.
In any other business, ministers will receive a presentation by the Commission on a long-term vision for rural areas and information from the presidency and the Commission about the upcoming Tripartite Social Summit on 20 October 2021.
